CONCEPT NOTE / SAJITH PUTHUKKALAVATTOM
As an artist I have always tried to portray nature. But it is not the beauty of
nature or even the immense strength of nature that inspired my paintings. But
my paintings attempt to depict how human greed has destroyed the ability of
nature to sustain life. We are increasingly turning this beautiful planet, perhaps
the only planet in the universe that can produce and support life, into a
wasteland.
My works titled Hamartia try to portray how human greed destroys the habitat
of countless species around us and push them into extinction and at the same
time destroys our own chance to exist.
I have always tried to ask the question, what the modern urbanisation has given
us. Since 2003 I have been trying to raise such questions and communicate them
to the common man through my paintings, without exaggeration and
complexity. I've tried to maintain the same amount of political awareness I keep
in my life, in my paintings also.
